Pursuing a PhD in Athletic Training

Precious Barnes, Head Athletic Trainer

While working at The Potomac School, I have had the opportunity to complete two post-graduate degrees. I completed a Master of Science in Applied Nutrition from Northeastern University and I also completed a Doctorate in Athletic Training.

Athletic health consists of many different facets including nutrition, mental health, and strength training/conditioning. I have been able to broaden my skill set by focusing on topics that complement athletic health. The knowledge I gained from the Applied Nutrition program has allowed me the confidence to broach nutrition topics with our scholar-athletes, and provide sound guidance for those who seek additional support. The knowledge I gained from the Doctorate in Athletic Training program encouraged me to practice at the top of my medical scope, while also supporting the Sports Medicine community as an advocate and published scientific author.
